This Ken Lum’s Untitled (Zainub), 1984. It is a chromogenic print mounted on acrylic, 101.6cm × 228.6cm × 5cm upon which my image 5 Zainub (Untitled), also a chromogenic print, 20in x 50in, is based. This image was discussed in my previous post on artist and arts administrator Zainub Verjee’s important contributions to Canadian Art. In my initial draft, pictured below, Zainub leans inwards and I gaze directly at the viewer through the proscenium of Ken’s cheeky corporate abstraction. While I believe Ken meant his abstraction to be ironic even then – the present situation in art and world affairs called for stronger dose! Below is my draft and the proof for the final image.
