Anwar Ibrahim faces a vote of confidence in the two-day sitting of parliament that began today. He has done his best to shore up support from his Unity Government partners using both diplomacy and coercion via a Memorandum of Agreement that empowers coalition parties to unseat members of parliament who do not tow the line. He certainly seems to have done everything in his power to ensure that he can have confidence in the confidence vote!

Politik Malaysia 1955 -2022

1955 – A decisive win for Alliance in the first elections held in Malaya.
2022 – A Unity Government consisting of PH, BN, GPS, and GRS

Anwar has become detached from Pakatan Harapan and is imbricated with UMNO, GPS and GRS. UMNO now occupies the place of the MCA as the second partner in the coalition as MCA has been displaced. DAP has taken the place third place from MIC. Following not so far behind, as the Unity Government crosses the finish line, is the ethnocracy threatened by Perikatan Nasional. PAS is already there at the finish as the party that won the largest number of seats in GE 15.

Anwar Ibrahim was the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, when the Asian financial crisis struck in 1997. Although he seemed to be on the way to becoming the 5th Prime Minister of Malaysia, he got into a conflict with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed and, by 1998, he was sacked from his post, arrested and charged with the offences of corruption and sodomy. In 1999 he was convicted and jailed. Today, 24 years after he was foiled in his early prime ministerial ambitions, and following Malaysia’s GE15 resulting in a hung parliament, Anwar has been asked by the Agong to form the next government. At last, in 2022, fragile though his tenure might be, Anwar Ibrahim has finally become the 10th.Prime Minister of Malaysia.
