Mounting Tension

In a Facebook posting the native defenders of Lelu Island and Flora Banks claim that on Thursday January 28, one of their boats was rammed by a Pacific Northwest LNG contractor boat. They further assert that this is the third incident of a PNW LNG contractor ramming one of their vessels. They end the post with a call for the “forces of know” to shut down Petronas!!

A Sign of Comitment

Pacific NorthWest LNG has confirmed that it has leased two floors of office space at the Park Place tower at 666 Burrard Street, Vacouver. This will give the Petronas-led consortium the ability to accommodate up to 75 staff – a sign that it is ‘Game on’ as far as Petronas is concerned for its projected CAD 40 billion plus investment into BC LNG.

Lelu Declaration

LeluDecSigning_610px.jpgHereditary Chief Yahaan (Don Wesley) of the Gitwilgyoots Tribe of the Lax Kw’alaams leads a formal declaration to oppose the Lelu Island gas hub proposed by Petronas as a key component of it’s CAD 36 billion LNG project in BC. Leaders from the Nine Allied Tribes of the Lax Kw’alaams First Nation; leaders of upriver nations including the Gitxsan, Wet’suwet’en, Lake Babine and Haisla First Nations; Grand Chief Stewart Phillip of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs; all four of the region’s senior elected representatives, NDP MP Nathan Cullen (Bulkley Valley), and three northern NDP MLAs – Jennifer Rice (North Coast), Doug Donaldson (Stikine) and Robin Austin (Skeena) all signed the declaration.

Petronas Cuts Spending

Petronas is planning to cut USD 11.4 billion in capital and operating expenditure over the next four years due to falling oil prices and it is as yet unclear which projects will be affected.
